2010 Congress Open Reining Champion on Electric Code!
Jared Leclair is originally from Lowell, Massachusetts and started riding reining horses with his uncle, an NRHA trainer and judge. After graduating high school Jared decided to continue following his dream of becoming a professional reining trainer by attending The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio because of their intensive equestrian program. Jared joined the University’s IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) team and in 2001 he captured the Individual Reining National Championship win as well as helping the U of F IHSA team take home the Championship in the team competition.
Jared’s next move of his already promising career was accepting a training position at Quarter Mount Farm in Paxton, MA. Owned by Steve Simon, Quarter Mount Farm was quickly gaining national recognition as the home of Custom Crome future NRHA million dollar sire. Adding to his growing list of accomplishments Jared showed Steve Simon’s Custom Cappuccino to the Ltd. Open, Int. Open, and Open NERHA year end title and took the reserve championship in the Limited Open class at the 2003 All American Quarter Horse Congress on Custom Tracker.
In January of 2004 the opportunity of a lifetime came to Jared in the form of an assistant trainer’s position under NRHA Hall of Fame member Tim McQuay. With no time to spare Jared got right to work learning from and showing for the McQuays. Jared’s next big accomplishment came when he won the Intermediate Open at the 2004 QH Congress atop Wowsanic. At the 2005 NRBC Jared and Dun It In Tinseltown took home the reserve championship in the Intermediate Open Division and came back the following year, 2006 and captured the championship in the same division of the derby. January 2007 marked the end of Jared’s third year as an assistant trainer at McQuay Stables and the beginning of a bright future as head trainer of Leclair Performance Horses.
Jared and his wife, Heather, operate Leclair Performance Horses out of Legacy Ranch in Pilot Point, Texas. As was stated from its establishment Leclair Performance Horses is committed to excellence and as 2008 proved is successfully reaching its goal.
A few of the major titles Jared captured in 2008 include the RMRHA Summer Slide Futurity Stallion Stakes Open, Open & Int. Open Co-Champion with Electric Code, NRHA Derby Int. Open Co-Champion aboard Rootin Tootin Dunit, SWRHA Futurity Open & Int. Open Champion as well as the NRHA Futurity Int. Open Championship riding Electric Code.
Continuing his winning ways in 2009, Jared, riding Electric Code took home the Open Derby Championship at the Gordyville Breeders Classic as well as the Reserve Championship on Rootin Tootin Dunit. He tied himself for Res. Champion at the NRBC in the Open class with two entries: Electric Code and Custom Smart Chic. At the NRHA Derby Jared and Electric Code were in the top ten of the Open Division.
Not only is Jared in the winners circle as the rider but as the Non Pro instructor as well. Jared’s Non Pro Team have won many titles including the SWRHA Int. Open Futurity Championship, all three divisions of the Non Pro Derby at the One Hot Reining, Reserve Champion in the Intermediate Non-pro Affiliate class at the Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic and at the NRHA Futurity, and the Limited Non Pro NRHA Futurity Championship just to name a few.
Jared’s talent and dedication, as well as, the opportunity to ride phenomenal horses has given him the edge he needs to be a successful showman. His success in the show pen earned him the distinction of top Intermediate Open Rider as well as the 5th ranked Open rider over all of the 2008 show season.
Leclair says, “he feels privileged to be a part of the reining horse industry and is excited about sharing his knowledge so that others may reach their reining goals.”
